Originally a painter of murals and trompe l'oeil,
Steve Hoppough started studying ceramics under Jay Gogin
at the Florida Keys Community College in 1998. He
has also studied with Peter Voulkos, Paul Sodner, Robert
Pipenburg, and Peter Callas. These artists with
their different techniques and styles made Steve realize
that there are endless possibilities of what he could do
with clay.
Steve is mostly a hand builder and a sculptor.
He likes to work in two and three dimensional forms,
which is also reflected in his murals. His firing
methods include raku, woodfire, and stoneware.
Stebe will pick a theme and then build a few pieces on
theat theme; such as whimsical, realism, or fantasy.
The pieces will all be related, bbut all different.
Steve also takes inspiration from the beauty of nature
in the Florida Keys.
